Growing kids!

Last night, as I was serenading the children, lulling them into a peaceful slumber, I heard a big THUNK followed by a howl.  So Up I got out of the rocking chair, Girl2 still in my arms, into the boys' room.  There was Boy2 on his bed, just hollering!

"What happened?" I ask.

"Mom, my bed hurt my spine!" came the reply.

"What were you doing?"

"I was doing a somersault and the bed hurt my back!"

Me, trying to not laugh or lose it completely (he has become the master at stalling bed time so I'm getting a bit tired of this) "Sweetie, I have two questions for you.  First one: Is bedtime somersault time?"-"No." Tears are streaming down his face because his back really does hurt.

"Okay, second question: Is your bunk-bed a good somersault place?"

"No."

"So who fault is it that you hurt your back?"

Sniffle, sniffle as he raises his hand.

"Okay.  I'm sorry your back is sore, but I think you need to go to sleep now.  I will sit here for a couple of minutes to rub your back, but then you have to sleep.  Alright?"

He nods his head.  And is asleep minutes after I leave. :)  He is a sweetheart!

So my Boy has officially finished kindergarten!  Yesterday was his last day of school.  His class did a concert, we received a memory book that they put together (pieces of art work and writing from the whole year)and then some playtime outside before they resumed their festivities.

When we went to pick him up from school, we let them all play for a while.  One boy in the Boy's class absolutely LOVES the Girl.  He followed her around trying to "help" her.  He has two younger sisters, so he kind of knows how to play with a little girl.  Soon, though, there was a group of five or six following her around.  Boy2 told me that the Girl was playing Princess and the boys were her guards :)  Then a few girls started following too, mothering her, helping her climb and then get down the slides.  It was quite funny, since the Girl only does what she wants to do and will not be coerced into doing something she doesn't want to do!

But then we went out for sundaes to celebrate the end of school.  The teacher had some glowing praise for the progress the Boy has made throughout the year.  She included the phrases "stunning artwork", "enjoyed challenging himself", "enthusiastic mathematician with good number sense", and "you are a budding scientist; don't ever lose your sense of curiousity!"  Needless to say, this is one very proud mamma!

I did video tape the little concert they put on yesterday, but when I went to upload it the estimated time was three hours, so that will have to wait until I have a bit more time to devote to it.

Today the kids have been playing in the tents and tunnels.  Super crazy kids, but they were having fun.  Naps were a bit of a challenge, but everyone fell asleep eventually.  I don't normal push the Boy to actually sleep since he's almost 6, but he really needed it today.  Especially since next week when we start our little holiday he won't really have any down time at all.

Girl2 is growing.  At her one week appointment she had lost some weight (she was down to 9lbs 7oz), so the doctor wanted to see her again at two weeks.  She was up past her birth weight, so everyone is happy.  Plus she's sleeping better (provided she doesn't have gas), and eating, eating, eating!  The red in her eyes are fading (there were a few burst blood vessels from labour), and she's getting more and more alert everyday.  That's all to be expected, but it's exciting all the same.

I'm going to post a few more pictures tonight after the kids are all in bed and I've done some ironing.  It's been neglected for probably too long :)

Oh, and Hubby ran in the DOT Dash (Doctors of Tomorrow) last Saturday.  It was the first athletic competition he's ever been in and he placed third!  I'll post a picture of him too.

Newest project arrived!

She's HERE!  Girl2 made her appearance Monday, June 11th at 8:47 am!
Weighing in at a whopping 9 lbs 14 oz!  Yikes!  That's a big girl!  And only 19 3/4 inches long.

The Boy, Boy2, and Daddy were thrilled to come and see her (well, Daddy was there for the birth, but it was nice for him to come back and see her again).  The Girl was happy to see Mommy, but not sure about this whole Baby thing...  She seems better today.  I requested and was able to come home last night (so I was in the hospital for just over 12 hours) and we are all settling in well.  She's a good sleeper (so far) and a good eater (again, so far) and a very good pooper :)  (I know that's exactly what everyone wants to know!)

We were visited by Hubby's Great Aunt and Uncle, as well as a good friend who is a pastor here in the Edmonton area.
That's all for now, but I'll try to update with some home pictures shortly.  Oh, and the Boy's kindergarten class took a poll last week to see if the baby was going to be a girl or a boy, and there was an overwhelming majority for a girl.  Guess they were right!
